Hi Flinkywood As Doc has so aptly stated, "Such questions cannot be answered from Scripture." I therefore offer up to you this, my speculation on the matter. Satan starts the temptation of Eve with the statement. "You shall not surly die" that is the seed of DOUBT, doubting God at his word. People have been led into all kinds of sins by just doubting that God said - - DON'T. Eve saw the tree was good for food, and pleasant to the eyes. That was a DESIRE for something forbidden. People have an innate nature towards the forbidden. You might say Eve was created in the image of God, but she wasn't she was created in the image of "MAN". Haven't you ever asked yourself why did Satan tempt Eve, instead of Adam? Adam wasn't tempted, he just gave his authority to Eve, and ate. If Eve was PERFECT, then she could not have been tempted any more than Jesus was. Jesus "WAS" PERFECT and when he was tempted he overcame. Augustine, wasn't as perceptive as one might think, if he wasn't aware of the possibility for two other sins as a potential cause. So how can one definitively say it comes down to self-love to the point of contempt for God? Vintage68 |

Dear Vintage, You wrote: "You might say Eve was created in the image of God, but she wasn't she was created in the image of "MAN" Pardon me, Vintage, but not only might 'we' say she was created in the image of God, but God says she was created in the image of God. Not, the image of man! Now thats not only speculation but it goes against and says something that is not written in God's word. 'Sola Scripture', remember, it's in the Terms of Use you agreed to? Gen 1:27 God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Notice it says, male and 'female' He created 'them' ? John |

Hi John Yes John, thank you for the bible lesson, but doesn't it also say. Gen 2: 7, 15, 18 - 23 7.) And the LORD God formed ("MAN") (of the dust of the ground), (and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life;) and (man became a living soul.) 15.) And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. 18.) And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; (I will make him an help meet for him.) 19.) And (OUT OF THE GROUND the LORD God formed every beast of the field), and (every fowl of the air; and (brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them:) and (whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.) 20.) And (Adam gave names to all cattle), and (to the fowl of the air), and (to every beast of the field); (but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.) 21.) And (the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept:) (and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;) 22.) (AND THE RIB), (which the LORD God had taken from man), (MADE HE A WOMAN, and (brought her unto the man.) 23.) (AND ADAM SAID), (THIS IS NOW BONE OF MY BONES), (AND FLESH OF MY FLESH:) (SHE SHALL BE CALLED WOMAN), ((BECAUSE SHE WAS TAKEN OUT OF MAN.)) I have taken the liberty of adding the brackets for clarification. I have capitalized for emphasis of the words, so don't think I'm yelling. Man was created OUTSIDE the Garden, Woman, and everything else was created INSIDE the Garden I don't know if you noticed, but the beast of the field, and the fowls of the air, were all made from the ground, as Adam was. But Eve was made from the rib, that God took out of Adam. In looking back at verse 7 you will see, ("and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life;and man became a living soul.") We don't see that taking place with Eve. Do we? Does it say she is a living soul also? I don't care to speculate on that question. Now as we all know, God is sovereign, so he can do anything he pleases on this earth can't he. I see she was taken out of MAN as the bible states, that makes her in the image OF MAN. Man was created for fellowship with God. Woman was created for fellowship with Man. You seem to be taking the scripture that is in Gen. 1:27 which seems to be the (General Accounting) as to the creation story, which by the way I am not disputing, "GOD CREATED MAN, AND WOMAN." But to take it a step further in Gen. 2 we see what could be called, the actual (Creation Process.) 1.) Who was created, 2) What was created, 3.) When were they created,4.) Where were they created 5.) Why were they created, 6.) How were they created. Vintage68 |

Dear Vintage, When our presuppositions are not founded on the Scripture itself, we cannot hope to render a right interpretation. It is easy for people to shift from exegesis to speculation, unless we are grounded in the analogy of faith. The frame of interpretation built on the foundation of presupposition, and tied together with speculation, yields the most tenuous of conclusions. Our divinely inspired revelation is rooted in words, precisely and intentionally chosen by the Holy Spirit. We operate on the Biblical doctrine of sola Scriptura, outside of which there is nothing but aberrant teachings of men and devils. So, I take it you never picked up the book I recommended in post #215595? If cost or availability is a factor, email me with a mailing address and I will happily send one to you. (Note: Send the email, use some sort of tag phrase, THEN post that tag phrase here, so that I may be certain the email is from you.) As you are better equipped in a sound Biblical hermeneutic, it brings glory to God and blessing to the brethren. In Him, Doc |

Thanks once again brother, for intervening with sound advice. Sheer weariness and exasperation has rendered me ill equipped to respond to such convoluted exegesis. Never ever heard anything even close to that one before. It's amazing what the mind of man can come up with! John |
