Okay, Ed... take it up with Josephus and the rabbis. I'm really impressed with your grasp of Hebrew or, at least, the authority of your sources if you can toss out native speakers of Hebrew as not knowing what they are talking about. Regarding speculation: The entire question is speculative, Ed. Speculative questions permit speculative answers. You started this thread branch with "first we don't know." So the root of the branch is speculation too. Didn't I even state that I was speculating? So shoot me for speculating! Sheesh! |

doc Let me add one more point. Since we don't know what language Adam and Eve spoke, the name they could have picked could be far different that the one in Bible. We see a clear distinction between Jesus and Joshua yet in many languages there is none. In any case we still don't know Adam and Eve's motivates. There certainly wasn't a dictionary in existence that they could go through picking out names for how they felt. they may have known the meaning intuitively but no one can say for certain. In many cases the meaning of the name is assigned after the fact. All I’m saying if we are speculating let’s speculate, how we state things, in a dogmatic fashion or not, determines the readers perception of speculation or statement of fact. EdB |
