1 | Animal Intelligence Isn't Rational | Gen 3:1 | Lionstrong | 19703
MORE CRAFTY: ANIMAL INTELLIGENCE The animal Satan chose to use was the most intelligent of all the animals in that class of animals, which was the beasts of the field. To say that animals are intelligent (or shrewd, as in Mat. 10:16) is not to say that they are rational, a quality only God, angels and man have. The degree of intelligence ascribed to an animal is based on the degree that its behavior mimics that of a rational being. Otherwise, the bahavior of an animal is totally instinctive, having nothing to do with rationality. Animals, in other words, do not think. Our present culture would like us to believe that men are essentially animals (or machines), and that what we call thinking is no different than the mental processes of an animal. They would have us believe that the difference in our mental process and theirs is only a matter of degrees, not a qualitative difference, only quantitative. |

2 | Animal Intelligence Isn't Rational | Gen 3:1 | 19920
It is completely absurd that one would think an animal as crafty as the one described in Genysis3:1, who was more crafty than any beast of the lord God had made, isnt rational. If this was the case, why is evil and satan brought up so much. Someone as evil and manipulative as satan would be out of business by now if he relied on irrtional animals or any other beings to carry out his evil tasks. This is only a question, I am not a "christian" by any means, though I am not an atheist. I am only asking these questions in an attempt to learn. Please do not reply with quotations from the bible. I do not mean to offend, but I would like to hear rational common sense answers.
3 | Animal Intelligence Isn't Rational | Gen 3:1 | Sir Pent | 19965
Welcome to the Forum ............................. Dear Spark, I am very glad that you have joined our discussion group here. I hope that this forum will be as helpful for you as it has been for me. There are many people here who have pretty well thought out ideas on a broad range of subjects relating to Christianity. I would like to respond to several things in your post. First I would agree with you that animals do have the ability to be "rational". The dictionary defines rational as the ability to reason. It defines reason as the ability to calculate, comprehend, and think in an orderly manner. I think it is obvious that animals exhibit this to a limited degree. A tiger "calculates" what angle to chase it's prey, and exactly when to pounce in order to catch it. Pavlov's dog experiment showed clearly that animals could learn to associate things in an orderly manner. The second thing in your post that I would like to respond to is your desire for no Bible quotations. Since this is a Bible Forum, this request seems a little "unreasonable" :) I do understand that as a non-Christian it would not be authoritative for you though. I would encourage you to do a search on this site for previous posts regarding the Truth of the Bible. There has been some very good discussion on that subject. The final thing that I would like to mention is that I hope that you will continue to dialog with us here on the forum. As a non-Christian, you probably have many questions about Christianity, and I hope that we will be able to help answer at lest some of them. |
