I see Scarlet named in the Bible many many times usually in connection with anointing or of spiritual matter. My question is this is Scarlet an oil ? If not what it was it. I aminterested in learning about essentila oils and dislike when they are listed as a new age healing practice, when from my understanding been around since before Christ. | ||||||

Hi, lscarlette... Welcome to the forum! Scarlet is a dye that is crimson. The word can also refer to the color of the dye, or something that has been colored with the dye. It is made by grinding up the dried body of a particular kind of worm. What I'm finding on the web is that the worm is called coccus ilicis. Apparently the dye was made only from the female. You might try Googling to find out more. The first reference in Scripture to scarlet is Genesis 38:28 -- well before the time of Christ. In Him, Doc PS New Agers and others may take up medicinal practices as their own. Of course, we know that all good things come from the Lord (James 1:17). Sinful humans often redefine things to avoid giving God glory (Romans 1:25). |
