1 | Jacob/Israel Name interchanged in Gen. | Gen 32:28 | Makarios | 156809
Greetings PJC, I apologize, the Lord Himself did not change Saul's name to Paul, but Saul was also called Paul (Acts 13:9), and used Paul as his name after he was saved and commissioned by the Lord in Acts 9. Blessings to you, Makarios |

2 | Jacob/Israel Name interchanged in Gen. | Gen 32:28 | PJC | 156819
Thank you Makarios for the information but I do know all those things. My question is why do the scriptures use Jacob/Israel interchangeably? It cannot be to identify him for the reader as the names change occurs even within sentences. I looked up all scriptures where this occurs in the Hebrew text and it also changes the names for some reason. Everything in the Word of God is placed for a reason. I still have the question! PJC |

3 | Jacob/Israel Name interchanged in Gen. | Gen 32:28 | Makarios | 156822
Greetings PJC, I apologize for not answering your question earlier, but I have searched through everything I have and I have not been able to find a specific answer as to why Scripture uses 'Jacob' and 'Israel' interchangeably in Genesis. At this point, I can only offer you my speculation. It is possible that the context of the passage itself could reveal the whys as far as why one is used over another in specific places. Blessings to you, Makarios |
