1 | Value of experience | Gen 30:27 | EdB | 243453 | ||
Genesis 30:26-27 (KJV) 26 Give me my wives and my children, for whom I have served thee, and let me go: for thou knowest my service which I have done thee. 27 And Laban said unto him, I pray thee, if I have found favour in thine eyes, tarry: for I have learned by experience that the LORD hath blessed me for thy sake. It has been said that, “There is no authority in experienceâ€, yet most of the gospels describe what the Disciples experienced. The story of Jesus walking on water was what they experienced, what happened, what occurred, experience. I agree experiences is not always reliable it can and is often influenced by many factors but like everything else it has to be compared to scripture, are there examples in scripture the coincide with the experience? Does the experience edify man’s flesh or man’s spirit? Does it glorify God or man? Does scripture give instruction on the experience? Did the experience remain within the boundaries of scripture? We should not discount anything that glorifies God. Nor should we deny experience as being un-trust worthy. Nothing is to be accepted on face value everything must be tested to see if it lines up with the word of God. |
