1 | was dust meaning dirt or mud? | Gen 2:7 | Makarios | 154803
Greetings Fun, Genesis 2:7 "Then the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being." [NASB] According to Strong's Bible Dictionary, the Hebrew word for dust is "aphar (aw-fawr') From H6080; dust (as powdered or gray); hence clay, earth, mud: - ashes, dust, earth, ground, morter, powder, rubbish." According to Blueletterbible.org, this Hebrew word is found in 110 places in the Old Testament; translated as 'dust' 93 times in the KJV, earth 7 times in KJV, powder 3, rubbish 2, ashes 2, morter 2, ground 1.. In the case of Genesis 2:7, I believe that the Hebrew word that is translated as 'dust' is referring to dry or loose earth. Blessings to you, Makarios |

2 | was dust meaning dirt or mud? | Gen 2:7 | Ray | 154808
Hi Makarios, Good work in responding in patience and helpfulness. It will be good if you get a response from him for what he has in mind with his question. In my reading, what sticks with me is what MacArthur writes in his notes. "Made from dirt, a man's value is not in the physical components that form his body, but in the quality of life which forms his soul (see Job 33:4)." Job 33:4, "The Spirit of the Lord has made me, And the breath of the Almighty gives me life. 5 Refute me if you can, Array yourselves before me, take your stand. 6 Behold, I belong to God like you; I too have been formed out of the clay." From the heart, Ray |

Hi Ray! What an excellent addition with Job 33:4! That really is the point, isn't it - that man's value is not in the physical components of the body, but in the quality of life which forms his soul! What an excellent and encouraging post, taken straight from one of our favorites - MacArthur's notes.. THAT was the post of the day! Many blessings to you, dear friend! Makarios |
