1 | First cousin marriages today? | Gen 28:2 | wordoer | 34881
According to the account in Genesis 28, There is no restiction against marrying a first cousin. Rebecca sent Jacob to take a wife from the Daughters of Laban her brother. God certainly does not condemn it. The restrictions in Leviticus 18 are clear, that relations with a close blood relative are forbidden. The examples are listed Father, Mother, Sister, Brother, Aunt, Uncle, ect... It suprised me because I had always heard and believed that marriage is resticted to the relation of second cousins, Meaning that it was okay to marry your second cousin. I see no other laws forbidding marriage to first cousins. Also the accounts in the scripture about the Daughters of Lot having relations with Lot resulted in the Moabites and the Ammonites (genetic defects) which were considered wicked lineage (Caanan also). My point would be if Jacobs union to Rebecca had not pleased God, He would have condemned their children and not blessed them. Hope that helps, wordoer |

2 | First cousin marriages today? | Gen 28:2 | AnswerSeeker | 142772
I find this a very good question, and one which many people have many different views on. There are a few places in the bible that I know of, in which cousins, even first, were commanded to marry one another. I will give a few verses that cover this now... Genesis 24: 12-51 Isaac, son of Abraham, married Rebekah his first cousin, once removed. Genesis Chapters 28-29 Jacob, son of Isaac, married his cousins rachel and Leah Numbers 36 Zelophehad's five daughters were commanded by God, Through Moses, to marry cousins. 1 Chronicles 23:22 Eleazars daughters each married first cousins as instructed. In the 18th Chapter of Leviticus the Bible provides a well detailed list of forbidden relationships. These are the Laws of God, and are instructions on what relationships are forbidden. It states that you should not have sexual relations with any close relative, which is defined as your mother, father, brothers, sisters, or Aunts and Uncles. Your Aunts and Uncles, BECAUSE they are your mother and fathers close relatives. The line stops there! No mention of cousins, of any degree. I feel as if cousins marriages are taboo in the eyes of society and not in the eyes of God. The 18th chapter of Leviticus, openly forbids homosexual relations! Though society excepts this practice and even glorifies it! So my point is, you have to look within your heart and be open to what God tells you, pray and your prayers will be answered! Just because Society has an opinion on a lifestyle, does NOT mean that our heavenly Father looks upon that lifestyle as a sin! We should not worry about what others think, we should only think about how we can live our lives according to God's plan. We should let our actions and words be positive and reflect our faith in our Lord! We should strive to please God by being the best Christians we can be, and by doing right by others....not by going with the flow, and allowing the thoughts of society bring us down in our faith! I came here today to find out if anyone knew of any other verses in the Bible concerning Cousin marriages/relationships? If so I would love to know where to find those! I myself have been blessed by God in finding the man that he meant for me to live my life with. This man is a wonderful, faithful, Christian, as I am a Christian woman! Since we found each other, God has blessed us so many ways...Our 13 year old daughter has found her purpose in life, which is to be a missionary, and spread the word of her heavenly Father! My husband and I have been brought so much closer to God, and our family has never been better. My husband and I are cousins. We are Christians, and we are very blessed in our relationship with our friends, family and God! We have gone through hard times, everyone does, but we never miss the chane to thank God for the family and faith he has given us, through each other! I honestly believe in my heart, that if I was in a marriage/relationship that was wicked or wrong, that my family and I would not be as blessed as we are today! Society and their thoughts on this...well maybe they should open up a bible, attend a Church service, open up their hearts to recieve the true healing and comforting power of our Lord! Maybe then instead of passing judgment on subjects they are not even educating themselves on, they will understand that there are things in this world, we can not expalin or even comprehend, but there is always a source in which we can turn to for answers through prayer! |

Biblical prohibitions of cousin marriage reside only in the minds of the unlearned. ____________________ "Fact: Leviticus 18 lists all forbidden sexual relationships. Cousin relationships are not included. "Fact: God commanded many cousins to marry, including Zelophehad's 5 daughters, Eleazar's daughters, Jacob (who married both Rachel and Leah, first cousins), and Isaac and Rebekkah (first cousins once removed). All were ancestors of Jesus Christ." "There is more than one account of where God put cousins together. Read the following references in their entirety. "Isaac married Rebekkah, his first cousin once removed. Genesis 24:12-51 "Jacob married two of his cousins, Rachel and Leah. I love this story! Genesis chapters 28-29 "Zelophehad's five orphaned daughters were commanded by God to marry cousins. Numbers 36 "Eleazar's daughters each married first cousins, as they were instructed. I Chronicles 23:22 "In the 18th chapter of Leviticus, the Bible provides a lengthy list of forbidden relationships. These laws are the scriptural definition of sexual impurity. Not one mention of cousins, of any degree, is made. "Some would argue that these are all Old Testament references. That is correct. The reason for this is that the New Testament does not specifically address the rules of sexual misconduct, with the exception of fornication, other than to refer you back to the Old Testament laws.
