Greetings Blackeagle, Jacob himself had a degree of difficulty in deceiving his father (Genesis 27:12), but his mother insisted and offered to bear any such curse that may follow for him (v. 13). "27:33 Isaac trembled exceedingly. Visibly shocked when the scandal was uncovered by the entrance of Esau, the father, remembering the Lord's words to Rebekah (25:23), refused to withdraw the blessing and emphatically affirmed its validity- "indeed he shall be blessed" and a little later "indeed I have made him your master" and also "you shall serve your brother" (vv. 37,40). Sudden realization at having opposed God's will all those years likely made the shock more severe." (1) Even after all was uncovered and the truth liad bare, Isaac did not curse Jacob, but reaffirmed the validity of his blessing, to Jacob instead of Esau, whom of which God chose for divine blessing and protection (Mal. 1:2,3; Rom. 9:10-13). Looking back on Gen. 25:23, do you still have difficulty in accepting Jacob's "deception", thinking that God's divine providence should have been handled differently? Blessings to you, Makarios (1) The MacArthur Study Bible, 1997, Word Publishing, John MacArthur, pg. 54 |
