1 | What is the law? | Gen 26:5 | DocTrinsograce | 232825 | ||
Hi, Elder... The word law can mean quite a number of things depending on context. It can mean the Ten Commandments; it can mean the commands of God given in the Pentateuch; it can mean all of God's commands; it can mean the civil commands of the Pentateuch; it can mean the ceremonial commands of the Pentateuch; it can mean the moral commands of the Pentateuch; it can mean mans civil rules, either generally or in a particular time or place; it can mean universal moral principles; it can mean the principles by which God has established nature to function; etc. I probably missed some! The Bible uses the word in all of these ways in a wide variety of contexts. Consequently, we use the word in all these variations, too. Remember the aphorism "context is king." For any of us to understand how the particulars of a word is used, we must have the context. Every word has the context of a sentence; every sentence has the context of a passage; every passage has the context of a book. In Him, Doc |
