1 | Darkness: an Effect or Substance? | Gen 1:4 | Lionstrong | 5976
God separated light from darkness. Shadows form darkness, but shadows presume light coming from a particular direction and an object to cast a shadow. Was then the light localized (altouhg not in any heavenly body) to cast a shawdow off the earth? Is this the separting that took place? Or is darkess more than the absence of light? In other words is darkness an effect or does it have substance. This is one for the physicists to ponder! (see also Isa 45:7) |

2 | Darkness: an Effect or Substance? | Gen 1:4 | charis | 5994
Dear Lionstrong, Darkness has no substance. It is the absence of light. Cold is the absence of heat. Death is the absence of life. Lies are the absence of truth. This absence can affect the substance by dissipating it. I believe that this is a physical answer with valid spiritual implications. Instead...trust the substance of God, and flee the dissipating power of the enemy. In Christ Jesus, charis |

3 | Darkness: an Effect or Substance? | Gen 1:4 | kalos | 6004
Charis: Thank you for a clear, accurate answer, one that is not 1000 words long or mired in denominational dogma (not that you have ever posted such an answer for you haven't). Very refreshing! Just as darkness has no substance and is the absence of light, so also "Sin is not itself a thing created. Sin is neither substance, being, spirit, nor matter. So it is technically not proper to think of sin as something that was created. Sin is simply a want of moral perfection in a fallen creature. Fallen creatures themselves bear full responsibility for their sin. And all evil in the universe emanates from the sins of fallen creatures. "For example, Romans 5:12 says that death entered the world because of sin. Death, pain, disease, stress, exhaustion, calamity, and all the bad things that happen came as a result of the entrance of sin into the universe (see Genesis 3:14-24). All those evil effects of sin continue to work in the world and will be with us as long as sin is." (www.gty.org) |
