1 | What is Light (Gen 1:3)? | Gen 1:3 | xina | 182040 | ||
What is Light? God creates light here (Gen 1:3) on the first day but the sun, moon, stars don’t come until the forth day (Gen 1:16)…so it’s not light in the sense that we know of. So what is it exactly that He created? Also he dubs the light “good” and separates it from the darkness. Since God is all that is good is He establishing that which is with Him and separating it from that which is not? Yet still allowing darkness to remain as there is no choice to be made without another option? Also, does establishing the two parts of day and night serve to establish/define the need for a time for work and a time to rest on a smaller scale than the 6 and 1? Since the creation of day and night happen on the first day the night serves as a definitive lapse between day one and day two. Is this to start the pattern that we must sometimes pull away from our work to rest and reflect on it? |

Hi, Xina... Welcome to the forum! You wrote, "...so it’s not light in the sense that we know of." (sic) I'd ask "Why not?" There isn't any indication in the text that it is some other kind of light. Certainly light would need to be created before the things that give off light came into existence. Regarding the "two parts of day and night," I would posit that this marks the dual aspects of time and space. In Him, Doc |

I guess that's true that light could come before the light source. But I don't understand what you mean with the second part re: day/night... |

Hi, Xina... You asked about the origin of night and day. I was just commenting that Genesis 1:3-5 tells us how God created light. It would also seem that the specific day/night demarcation mentioned in those verses, indicate that this was also the origin of time itself. Sorry for being unclear. :-) In Him, Doc |
