Hi Mike, I only know approximately, about 6180 years ago or so. Gen 1:31 God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. Everything was made in six days. If you add up the ages at fatherhood in the genealogies, add the times of the sojourn in Egypt and of the judges, add the durations of the reigns of the kings, bringing you to the modern dating system at the time of the Babylonian captivity, you can fairly estimate the age of the earth at about 6180 years or so. Its not possible to be exact, because we are only given years, not months. Also, the possibility exists that kings or sons have been left out, however, in my opinion, unlikely that may be. Even if there were a few left out, this would not add that many years to the total, so I think it is very reasonable to think between 6100 and 6400 years ago, although I do favor approx 6180. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |

4 | Does anyone know whrn the beginning was? | Gen 1:31 | mark d seyler | 165255
Hi Edwin, I am giving "years" as listed in the Bible. "And Adam was 130 years old when..." I do not know for certian when the year changed from 360 days to the current 365.2424 days, whether it was in the days, of Noah, the Exodus, of Joshua, or later. Its been a number of years since I did that research. I do know that it was not later than the Babylonian Captivity, and as such, would not have a greater affect on the age of the earth than around 50 years or so (if I am doing my math right). So as I gave a range of 6100 to 6400 years, it was partly also to accomodate that. But to answer your question, where the Bible says "years", I have taken it without regard to whether this is a 360 or 365 day year. Love in Christ, Mark |

It would appear from Genesis 7:11,and 24, with Ch 8:3-4, that a 360 day year might very well have been in use at that time, as 150 days is exactly 5 months of 30 days each.

Hi Edwin, It seems to me that there was indeed a 360 day year, and at some point, it changed, probibly due to celestial occurances in our earth's cataclysmic past. To anyone interested, I recommend "Worlds in Collision", "Earth in Upheaval", and "Ages in Chaos", all by Immanuel Velikovsky, a Russian scientist. He gives a very thorough presentation showing the historical evidence of what the Bible tells us happened. He was not, by the way, a believer. He was just interested in that sort of thing. Hi Lionheart, This timeline comes up with similar information. http://www.achievebalance.com/data/timeline/b.htm I have glanced through about a dozen timelines on the web, all differ. I have not yet found the chart I made some time ago. I remember seeing someone's timeline in the archives on this site that agreed with mine nearly exactly, if I could only find it again - sigh... I'll keep trying for you, brother! Love in Christ, Mark |
