1 | Gen 1:28, Sex in the garden of Eden? | Gen 1:28 | PaulusSecundus | 243530 | ||
If they had remained faithful, they would eventually have had sex in the garden. However, the Bible doesn't say that they did before being expelled. That is a private matter between a married couple. In Genesis 3:16, God told Eve after her sin: "You will suffer terribly when you give birth." Genesis 4:1 says: "Adam knew Eve." In what way? Numbers 31:17 mentions "known man by lying with him." Others say "had sex relations with a man" and "have ever had sex." Because God didn't destroy them immediately, she was able to give birth. So, this could indicate that it was first outside Eden that they had sex, and not while in Eden. |

Dear Paulus, Good point. I remember reading somewhere or another where some early teachers thought that the point you are making is evidence that the Fall came very, very soon after the completion of creation. In consideration of Genesis 3:8, it might well have taken place within 24 to 48 hours. I cannot vouch for that... I can't even remember the names of those scholars. In Him, Doc |
