1 | Righteous, Unrighteous and Children? | Gen 18:28 | Searcher56 | 12221
It bothers me that the children in Sodom were not considered righteous (Gen 18:27-30). Is there another catergory besides righteous and unrighteous? I hope so, but, I cannot find it in the Bible. Please help. Romans 1:18-20 came to mind. I don't think the children understand what God has revealed. |

Innocence? In 1 Kings 14: 1-13 the story is told of Abijah the son of Jeroboam becoming sick and dying. The reason given by the Lord was because something GOOD was found in him toward the Lord. It would seem that the Lord took him to spare him the corrupting influences that would surround him as he grew up in Jeroboam's house. Death is not the worst that can happen to one if one dies in innocence and perhaps that is why God may have spared the children of such corrupt societies as the pre-flood earth, Sodom and Gomorrah, Caanan, etc. through death. |

If you are not righteous according to God what are you? How many righteous people were in Sodom? Were the children considered righteous? Are we born sinners? Are we unrighteous at birth? |

5 | How many righteous people were in Sodom? | Gen 18:28 | Makarios | 12359
There are many places in Scripture that do not include children among the 'count' of those who are blessed, punished, considered righteous, plundered, etc.. Only in specific places does Scripture take the initiative to specifically recognize women and children in certain situations (Gen 33:5; Deut 2:34; 3:6; 20:14; 31:12; 1 Sam 22:19; Ezra 10:1; Neh 12:43; Esth 3:13; 8:11; Isaiah 3:12; Jer 41:16; 43:6 to name a few..). So how is it that you feel that it is important that children are not considered as righteous in Gen. 18:28? The fact is: the children of Sodom and Gomorrah are not referred to AT ALL here, not even mentioned! Therefore, any assumption that the children were in some way considered as "unrighteous" or guilty of sin is completely baseless and false in wake of the fact that they are not even mentioned in Scripture to begin with! --Nolan |
