1 | Why circumcise Ishmael? | Gen 17:23 | BREATHLESS | 78554
I see here Abraham circumcising Ishmael and all his household as he was commanded to do in vs. 12. What I am curious about is why this was commanded when other verses in this chapter describe that God will continue His covenant through Isaac. By circumcising Ishmael, does the promise of God, "to be their God," extend to the Ismaelites (Arabs) too? Of course I understand that God is God over all His creation. What I'm referring to is the distinction between the roles of both step brothers.
2 | Why circumcise Ishmael? | Gen 17:23 | Searcher56 | 78609
Scripture ... Exo 12:43c-45,48-50 ... While it is a covenant between God and the Israelites ... it was extended to those living with them. I cited the passage of the regulations for partaking of the Passover. Note the the Muslims circumcize when the lad is 13, the age Ishmael was. |
