1 | please explain Gen 15v1 | Gen 15:1 | Catherine D | 182497
What's the right translation for this? In my version it says God is Abram's reward. In NASB it says Abram's reward will be great. Also it seems what's on Abram's mind is his promised heir (v2). So is it about God reiterating His promise? Why? Anyone know any good commentaries on this verse? either their own or published ones. I'm hungry to grasp it's meaning. Thanks. |

2 | please explain Gen 15v1 | Gen 15:1 | arneska | 182500
"After these things" is referring to the previous chapter where he saved his nephew Lot and his three friends. You will notice that he did not accept any reward above what was used as needed so that Abraham could say that they did not make him rich. In Chapter 13 God promised Abraham land. The rest of Chapter 15 talks of his seed or future generations with the comfirmation of the original promise. For proof for future generations there too is mentioned a prophecy of what will happen before Abrahams decendents finally get their land as promised from the Lord. I believe this is talking of the end of Deuteronomy and book of Joshua. These would be considered in Abrahams point of view of things to come. Check out commentaries from Matthew Henry and John Wesley. |
