Concerned What concerns you? The fact your taught to tithe or parting with your money? Without income a church can not function. We willing accept and pay movie stars, athletes, CEO’s and others making millions, we pay outrageous prices for cars and homes, but we worry that the preacher might be getting rich, that the church might squander our money. Tithing was instituted long before the law. It was a custom before Abraham as a way to show honor, to pay tribute to some one. As a way to express appreciation with something that means something to us. Genesis 14:20 And blessed be God Most High, Who has delivered your enemies into your hand." And he gave him a tithe of all. Hebrews 7:2-6 to whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all, first being translated "king of righteousness," and then also king of Salem, meaning "king of peace," [3] without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, remains a priest continually. [4] Now consider how great this man was, to whom even the patriarch Abraham gave a tenth of the spoils. [5] And indeed those who are of the sons of Levi, who receive the priesthood, have a commandment to receive tithes from the people according to the law, that is, from their brethren, though they have come from the loins of Abraham; [6] but he whose genealogy is not derived from them received tithes from Abraham and blessed him who had the promises. Genesis 28:22 And this stone which I have set as a pillar shall be God's house, and of all that You give me I will surely give a tenth to You." A tithe is a way to show honor to God Your giving back one tenth of all He has given you. We actual have nothing, God lends it to us and we are to be good stewards of what He gives us. What better way than giving something that means so much to us. Tithing also insures the church and ministry has the needed money to function. We are not required to give a tithe, however the Bible does tell us if we do God will honor it. I know in my personal life I could not afford not to tithe. God has blessed me with health, wonderful children precious grandchildren and my needs are met. I believe God has truly blessed me for tithing. You do what you want. EdB |
