1 | Gen10:25 - Earth Divided? | Gen 11:7 | Danesh | 155158
Hi In Genesis 10:25, Two sons were born to Eber; the name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided; and his brother's name was Joktan. The mention of "for in his days the earth was divided". Does this refer to the physicalling splitting of a land mass or is it figurative? Thank you Danesh |

This could be leading up the the incident that took place in 11th chapter or Genesis. Remember the tower of babel, when God said let us go down, and confound thier language, and how when this happen the people scattered, in other words they were devided . meaning the world was devided different nationalities. Just a thought on the question.

Thank you. Yes, I remember that and that part I understand. I was just wondering if it did or could refer to an actually physical geogological split.... as there are some theories this did happen.

Hi, Danesh... I was digging around and found that the roots of the name Peleg appear to have an Akkadian equivalent meaning "divided by canals or irrigation ditches." The Hebrew word "pehleg" is used this way in Job 29:6 and 38:5. Although it is all speculative, these facts would tend to sway me away from the tower of Babel explanation or the continental drift explanation. It looks more like the division they were speaking about simply involved the construction of channels for the movement of water; an incident that we know nothing else about. However, when I checked with my local Aish Hatorah the Rabbi said that the division spoken of was, indeed, the incident at the tower of Babel. So maybe I'm wrong! But, I do take the Rabbi's word on things with a grain of salt -- Kosher of course. :-) In Him, Doc |

Thanks Doc! But, oh dear, it's confused me more now. However, I think I will take it as figurative and wait for more illuminations. Thank you Danesh |
