1 | More accurate version of a verse | Ps 9:16 | cathysmith97 | 226657
The King James version of Psalm 10:14, says, "Lord, you see grief and trouble to return it by your hand." The NIV version says, "Lord you see grief and trouble and take it into hand." There is a big difference between "return it by your hand" and "take it into hand". Take is into hand means just to consider something. I have a NIV study bible and its comment on this verse is "The Lord sees the suffering of the righteous." However if you read the verse in King James, the Lord does more than just "see" the suffering of the righteous, he "returns it by His hand." Which is the more correct or accurate version of this verse? Thank you |

I believe the answer lies in the previous Chapter 9:16...here its states that the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands, which would make the KJV the better of the two...But then again Jesus said that all Psalms must come true to fulfill prophesy...To where the latter would hold true, since Jesus took matters into his own hands...

skybender: Actually the NASB is the better translation. I would add remember that thye NIV is a thought for thought version, and the old KJV uses words and syntext we would not use that way today. The NIV is wrtten on a 6th to 8th grade reading level, whereas the KJV is on a 12th grade reading level. I have never read what reading level the NASB is, but I would estimate about 10th grade. The problem is we have not educated and trained students to read much beyond the grade they were last in. That's my opinion, not a fact. However I was a rather poor reader when I was a child, and the KJV was all I knew until I was an adult. That's the way it was in the "olden days". justme |
