Hi Seedling, Ps 51:1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. 3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Sin is translated from chatta'ah, which is from the root chata', which means, basically, "to miss", and refers to unintentional sin. You walk across the grass, not seeing the "do not walk on the grass" sign. Transgression is from pesha', and comes from a root meaning "to break away". This is rebellion. We see the sign, and walk on the grass anyway, by choice. Iniquity is from 'avon, and means crooked (i.e. twisted or bent), and refers to the perversity of our sinful nature, and speaks of inclination as a fallen race to go look for prohibited grass, that we would rip out the sign, and walk on, and dance on, and otherwise destroy our neighbor's lawn. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |

Yes. it does help using that analogue. Can you explain John 5:14, how the person who Jesus was talking to can sin no more? Does that me if a person sin , they immediately ask forgiveness therefor not sinning. Seedling |

4 | Sin no more? | Ps 51:1 | Shelly | 144186 | ||
They can ask for forgiveness, but they really need to repent, which means to turn from their ways, and not go back and do it again. The NIV Study Bible notes says: John 5:14 This man had been lame, or paralyzed, and suddenly he could walk. This was a great miracle. But he needed an even greater miracle--to have his sins forgiven. The man was delighted to be physically healed, but he had to turn from his sins and seek God's forgiveness to be spiritually healed. God's forgiveness is the greatest gift you will ever receive. Don't neglect his gracious offer. |

God's forgiveness is great. In Matthew 6:12, we ask God to forgive us like we forgive others. That's hard. I also find it is harder to forgive myself of some things I done than others. Seedling |
