1 | Are "God" and "Lord" Interchangeable? | Ps 46:10 | CMK | 85020
I am one of those people who find it hard to slow down and just BE. I have recently had the line from an old song running through my head. "Be Still and know that I am the Lord." (I don't recall the rest of the song, so I can't give the quote). I want to embroider this into a wall hanging so that I will have a prominant reminder. I have looked in each different version of the Bible that I have to quote it properly, and in every version, it says "Be still and know that I am God." Psalm 46:10 I want to know if "God" and "Lord" are truely interchangable. What are the differences? |

2 | Are "God" and "Lord" Interchangeable? | Ps 46:10 | Hank | 85021
Adon or Adonai is translated "Lord" and means "master." YHWH (commonly but erroneously written Jehovah) is usually translated "LORD." El, Elah, or Elohim is translated "God." There are various compound designations for God using "El" as. for example, "El Shaddai" translated as Almighty God; and using "YHWH" as in "YHWH Elohim" translated as LORD God. In the passage from the Psalter, I would stick with the designation "God" as it is rendered in most English translations. --Hank
