In Romans 4 when Paul insists that Abraham was not saved by works, the work he was primarily referring to was circumcision, the primary and first work of the Law. So Abraham was not saved by circumciosn but by faith before he was circumcised. And even after Abrahma was circumcised, there was still no Mosaic law with all its other "works of the Law." Blessed is he whose sin the Lord does not reckon against him, but rather credits or reckons faith as righteousness. |
