Why would a conservative, Bible believing, Born again Christian leader want to met with the Roman Catholic Pope? I recently watch a history of the Bible under Mid Evil times. Over and over the Pope and the Catholic leaders persecuted anyone involved in any attempt the have the people get a Bible to understand Gods Word. As The movie said the went on with extreme punishment to anyone involved with getting a Bible, except Roman Catholic church leaders. This continued into the seventeenth century. Most all of the widely known Bible translators were put to death in the most barbaric painful ways, in such a way everyone could witness their death. Yet today the Roman Catholic church still practices nearly all the same unbiblical things that the early Christians like Martin Luther stood against. Have Protestants just let the issues the early Church Bible translators died for just drop away? After seeing this movie I thought most of us have at least one Bible and perhaps more Bibles at our use. When so many died so I could have a Bible that was not made under the Roman Catholic supervision, I felt ashamed. I have more than 14 Bibles and I really do not appreciate it, especially considering the blood shed it took to get the Bibles we take for granted. Why are not more Pastors telling this history so we can better love the Word of God we have and most people don't even read it? |

Hi, Justme... Among Jews we have a saying, a promise, a kind of vow: "Never forget!" In my lifetime I have seen people actually claim that the Holocaust never took place. I have talked to young people who do not even know of the Holocaust. If the murder of six million Jews can be forgotten or denied in a generation, why are we amazed that people -- from the pulpit to the pew -- are so woefully ignorant of church history? Indeed, as David put it, "Why are the nations in an uproar and the peoples devising a vain thing? The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers take counsel together against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying, 'Let us tear their fetters apart And cast away their cords from us!'" (Psalms 2:1-3 NASB) It used to anger me, that my Lord would be so awfully abused by so many. Then it occurred to me: why should I expect the lost to behave in any other way than as lost men? They will revise history (Luke 11:47), deny facts (Jeremiah 29:8), studiously forget (James 1:24), refuse to read (Ezekiel 3:27), withhold instruction (Romans 1:18), proclaim falsehoods (Jeremiah 23:21), twist the truth (2 Peter 3:16), and many other things; all in hopes to be free of obligation and conviction. All they are doing is being exactly what they are -- nothing less and nothing more. We may rightly pity them, for we know the rest of what David wrote, "He who sits in the heavens laughs, The Lord scoffs at them. Then He will speak to them in His anger..." (Psalms 2:4-5a NASB) How terrifying! Therefore, let us pray all the more earnestly for them! It is encouraging to know, that we need not fear the Muslim, the atheist, the apostate. God is not mocked, but is carefully, faithfully, and lovingly bringing all of His plans to perfect fruition (Isaiah 25:1), just as He promised. In Him, Doc "Remember that our Bible is a blood-stained book; the blood of martyrs is on the Bible, the blood of translators and confessors. The pool of holy baptism, in which many of you have been baptized, is a blood-stained pool: full many have had to die for the vindication of that baptism which is 'the answer of a good conscience toward God.' The doctrines which we preach to you are doctrines that have been baptized in blood, -- swords have been drawn to slay the confessors of them; and there is not a truth which has not been sealed by them at the stake, or the block, or far away on the lofty mountains, where they have been slain by hundreds. ... Remember how they held fast the truth, how they preserved it, and handed it down to us from generation to generation; and by their noble example, I beseech you, be steadfast and faithful, tread valiantly and firmly in their steps, acquit yourselves like men -- like men of God, I implore you!" --Charles H. Spurgeon (1856) |
