Hi, edavis... A covenant is a compact or a binding agreement between at least two parties. Legally, it is a contract, formally or informally entered into, stating a set of terms to which each party is obligated. There are many covenants in Scripture. Indeed, the word "testament" is just another way to say covenant. Consequently, we recognize two broad covenants of God: the Old Testament and the New Testament. Some of the covenants of Scripture include the Adamic Covenant (Genesis 2:17-18), the Noahic Covenant (Genesis 8:20-9:17), the Abrahamic Covenant (Genesis 15), the Mosaic (or Sinaitic) Covenant (Exodus 19-24), the Palestinian Covenant (Deuteronomy 30:1-10), the Davidic Covenant (2 Samuel 7), and the New Covenant (Hebrews 8-10). Here is an interesting table showing the various components of Bible covenants: http://www.carm.org/doctrine/covenantgrace.htm There are three covenants implicit in Scripture that are called Theological Covenants. (1) The Redemptive Covenant or the Intra-trinitarian Covenant, the covenant between the persons of the Trinity, made before creation, for the plan of salvation; (2) the Covenant of Works, the covenant between God and our First Parents before the Fall; (3) the Covenant of Grace, the covenant between God and man, through Christ, regarding reconciliation and everlasting life.
