1 | God values His words more than His Name. | Ps 138:2 | Tune2Him | 104489
A few years ago, a pastor I was listening to said that the Bible states (in paraphrase) that God values His words more than He values His own name. What I know personally of God causes me to agree, but I would like to have scripture to back it up. I have been unable to find the scripture in the study tools I have available. Is anyone familiar with a passage(s) in the Bible that supports this?
2 | God values His words more than His Name. | Ps 138:2 | kalos | 104490
"thy word above all thy name" I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name. Ps 138:2 (KJV) |

3 | God values His words more than His Name. | Ps 138:2 | Ray | 104496
Hi Tune2Him, Welcome to the forum. I would point out some alternate readings for the verse that magnifies His word yet expresses His authority and name also. The NASB Study Bible has alternate readings in the margin. For "word" the note says [Or, promise]. Instead of "above all" the note says [Or, together with]. So the alternate reading suggested would go, "For Thou hast magnified Thy promise together with Thy name." Or paraphrased it says to my mind "For Thou hast magnified Thy promised word along with Thy name." Or, "For Thou hast magnified Thy promised spirit according to Thy authority and name."
