1 | What is Psalme 121 talking about? | Ps 121:8 | prayon | 49749 | ||
Greetings sminter, Psalm 121 expresses assurance and hope in God's day and night. It tells us that not only does he watch over us but also nothing distracts or deters Him. We are safe at all times. Psa 91:10-12 also talks about how He watches over us. One of the themes of the bible is that God watches over us and protects us if we trust in Him. Verses reinforcing this can be found throughout the bible. prayon |

Hi sminter, A purchase of a study bible will give you references in the margins. Since you gave me impetus for my study this morning, let me talk about some of them. I use a NASB version, but the parentheses you see are mine for comparisons. For verse one the margin gave me Psalm 123:1 so that when David looks to the mountains he is really looking to God. Not to the physical mountains but to the Spirit of God. Psalm 123:1, "To (Thee) I lift up my eyes, O Thou who art entroned in the heavens! ...So our eyes look to the Lord our God, Until He shall be gracious to us." Isaiah 49:18 also says, "Lift up your eyes round about, and see;..." Verse 2 in my study bible gave me Isaiah 40:26 for looking to Him for might and the strength of His power. And Psalm 124, "Our help is in the name of the (Lord), Who made heaven and earth." It is a comfort to know that He who keeps Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps. Psalm 88:1, "O Lord, the (God) of my salvation, I have cried out by day and in the night before Thee. Let my prayer come before Thee; Incline thine ear to my cry!" The Lord is your keeper and your shade. Verse five's marginal reference gives us Psalm 91:4, but look at the entire Psalm. Psalm 91:1, "He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High Will abide in the shadow of the (Almighty). I will say to the Lord, "My refuge and my fortress, *my God, in whom I trust!" Psalm 91:9, "For you have made the Lord, my refuge, Even the (Most) High, your dwelling place." Verse 6 gives us Rev.7:16. I meditated on the thought that He who sits on the throne spread (His) tabernacle over them. So not only is the (Lord) your shade on your right hand so that the sun doesn't hit us, but we also have the tabernacle over us so that the sun does not fall on us. And we see that the Lord will keep us from all evil just as the Lamb is our shepherd in Revelation. So our eyes shall look to the Lord our God for He will wipe every tear from our eyes. Psalm 123:2-Rev 7:17 I was led also to Luke 4:10 and how the angels guard us and keep us also, when looking at verse 7. John 17:15 came to mind when considering the idea of protecting and keeping; for the word "keep" was suggested in the margin. So I would recommend a study bible and as always the versions that capitalize Deity, either the NKJ or the NASB. From the heart, Ray |
