1 | REMEMBER to pray... | Ps 119:18 | Hank | 181928
I keep a journal in a little leather notebook. I believe it helps me to clarify and sort out my thoughts, thus enabling me to deal somewhat more expeditiously with the slings and arrows that come my way, and are common to all men. I came across the following entry in my journal and would like to share it with you, my friends of SBF, so here it is: "REMEMBER to pray before and after each Bible-reading session, asking God to illumine my spirit with His Spirit, so that I may be empowered to read the Holy Scriptures with understanding. 'Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law' (Psalm 119:18, KJV). After each reading session, thank God for speaking to me through His written word.' ..... The year is young and some of you may have begun a daily Bible-reading plan that will take you through the Bible by year's end. Consequently, you may find something of value in my journal entry that will assist you in your plan. It is my prayer that this simple journal entry will help you, and that God will bless your days as the new year unfolds. --Hank
2 | REMEMBER to pray... | Ps 119:18 | DocTrinsograce | 181936
Dear Brother Hank, That's a wonderful approach. Rather than reading this wise counsel only, I am going to go and implement your advice today! Thank you, sir, for suggesting it. I also find help in my own prayer life by reading the prayers of Godly men who have gone before. Of course, the Scriptures are full of such prayers. I've noticed that Paul spontaneously breaks out in prayer in the midst of epistles -- Ephesians is a prime example. Thank you, again, brother, for such solid, practical advice. In Him, Doc "Oh! divine Redeemer, out of whose inexhaustible fullness I would daily draw a rich supply of grace into my needy soul, be pleased to impart unto me an undivided heart; that to please You, may be my greatest happiness, and to promote Your glory my highest honor. Preserve me from false motives, from a double mind, and a divided heart. Keep me entirely to Yourself, and enable me to crucify every lust, which would tempt my heart from You. Enable me by Your grace to walk in one uniform path of holy, childlike obedience. When tempted to turn aside to the right hand or to the left, may I keep steadily Your way, until brought before Your throne, I see Your face, behold Your smile, and fall in ecstasy at Your feet, lost in wonder, love, and praise." --Thomas Reade |
