1 | Esther means hidden in Hebrew | Esth 1:1 | mkap | 145916
My original question had to do with the translation of the name,Esther. The name means " hidden" in Hebrew and "star" in Persian. This is significant because God's name is "hidden" in the book of Esther, yet His providence is seen throughout the book. Esther rises like a star but her identity is kept concealed in the beginning. |

2 | Esther means hidden in Hebrew | Esth 1:1 | EdB | 145929
Esther was not a Hebrew word therefore it had no translation. They handle it the same as they would say the word America. There isn't a Hebrew word for America therefore if your talking about American in Hebrew you would say America. Esther was a Persian word that was a derivative for the Persian Ishtar, which was a Persian goddess. We know many of the Hebrews had their name changed when they went into Babylonian captivity. Daniel and his three companions were renamed. See the book of Daniel. For some reason your making more out of the name than scripture intended. EdB |
