My question is about tithing. If I am a businessman, do I tithe from my gross income or from my profits that is after I have paid all my expenses? | ||||||

Hi, NYAWESHUS! I don't think that there is a varaition in the responsibility of tithing; meaning that one's position in life does not dictate a greater or lesser obligation to God. If you read the Bible you will find that hardly any of the Apostles gave tithing; no not because they were unemployed or traveling salesmen, but because the tithing was provided maily for the priesthood of the house of Levi and the Temple (true some was dedicated to the orphans, widows and the poor in general)... The Apostles made "collections" and they preached about giving with cheer and generosity--as was their resolve to help the needy (they did not profit personally from the collections). Perhaps you can afford to offer God thousands of dollars a year while others may only offer a few dollars... as Jesus' observation about the old lady and the wealthy man at the Temple (the first offered what she had to live on while the latter offered way much more but only of his surplus and his heart was devoid of humble generosity), give to God from your heart with love and gratitute for your good fortune! God Bless! Angel |
