Dear Darcy, The following reflects what I believe a creed to be: A creed, according to its general acceptation, is a summary of certain principles adopted by an association of individuals as articles of belief, by which they agree to be governed. The word is of Latin origin, being derived from the verb credo (I believe). According to ecclesiastical usage, a creed is an exhibition in human language of what are believed by its framers to be the great doctrines of the Bible. As a formula of the faith, it possesses no independent authority, but derives its very existence, and all the regard to which it lays claim from the Bible. It does not profess to make known any thing which has not already been revealed, nor does it undertake to constitute any thing truth which was not truth before; but its office is simply to draw forth from the word of God the great truths therein revealed, and state them in plain, intelligible language. (http://www.covenanter.org/Pressly/churchfellowship.htm) A creed is man's attempt to set forth the those doctrines which accurately reflect the truth of Scripture. Any church that sets it's creed on the same par with Scripture itself (claiming infallibility of it's creed) is apostate and I would shake the dust off my shoes and depart from it! Thankfully most churches still hold to sola scriptura (The Scripture alone). Check out Pressely at the web site listed above. John |

John, A creed, according to its general acceptation, is a summary of certain principles adopted by an association of individuals as articles of belief, This is where I beg a differ. According to general acceptation: God perpective should be the only basis. A million of people could believe something and be totally off. It scares me to think of how many false doctrines I have. But someday I'll find out and be corrected on them. If the local church considers to be the body of Christ why do they put up a creed and say you must believe this in order to be welcome here and grow in Christ. I can imagine great Hearos of the faith, and they are just that grerat heros of the faith are sitting in heaven saying oh man I can't believe I believed that. I can imagine Peter is up there and Jesus saying to Him. I TOLD YOU, you were going to bring the gospel into all the world not just Israel. I read in the paper here a major Denominational Church created a new Constitution. SOme of the missionaries would not agree to sign that constitution. Those missionaries lost the support. I know I have a "critical spirit". I pray about it daily. But boy ther way alot of churches are running today OUCH! I think there is nothing better than going to a house meeting and worshiping God, digging into His word and allowing the Holy Spirit to flow. There is no constituation in those situations. There is just you and a few people and God. and His Word. What more do you need? I don't think you need a thing more. The day of Pentecost was like that. No constitution or creed just a small group of people loving God in one accord and about 3000 got saved by Loving God and teaching the Word, allowing the Holy Spirit work. That is exactly what we need. Nothing more nothing less. In Crist, Darcy |

Dear Darcy Let me give you one Scriptural reference to it's description of the church. Maybe you will see that even the church in Bibical times was considered the pillar and ground of truth. the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. 1 Tim. 3:15b God Bless you New Creature |
