1 | Any more insight on Biblical government? | Ezra 7:26 | Beeg | 101955
I was wondering if anyone had any comments on government in the Bible, not only with the Israelites, but also what instructions Jesus left us with. I read the theocracy thread and was really interested. Does anyone have any more comments, perhaps even how government in the Bible relates to Socialism and Capitalism today?

Greetings Beeg, As Christians, we should serve the government that we are subject to, since their authority is given to them by the Lord (Romans 13:1). We are told to submit to our authorities (Romans 13:1-7; Titus 3:1; Hebrews 13:17; 1 Peter 2:13-17) and to pray for our government (1 Timothy 2:1-4). The Bible shows the lawlessness that comes as a result of no government (Judges 17:6; 18:1; 19:1; 21:25). A government exists for the people (Genesis 41:25-57; Esther 10:3), and God is over all nations (Psalm 22:28), holding the fate of world governments (Psalm 47:7-8). However, even though we serve the earthly government that we are born in, we must not lose sight of the fact that we are also citizens of the 'heavenly government' (Ephesians 2:19-20; Philippians 3:20). And our citizenship in that government (spiritual) is greater than that that exists here on earth (Daniel 3; Acts 5:29; Matthew 22:18-21). Blessings to you, Makarios |
