The Nethinims, first mentioned in 1 Chronicles 9:2, were the lowest order of temple servants. They were a sort of slave "given" (as the name implies) to the Levites to perform some of the more physical kinds of labor. They appear to have been given as early as Numbers 31:47, in the time of Moses. Since so few Levites came back after the captivity, these temple servants became increasingly important. | ||||||
