Hi Barbara, Titus, especially chapter 2, has a lot to say about the roles of men and women in the church. Also Paul's letters to Timothy. There are also numerous referrences scattered throughout the Scriptures showing both men and women praying in the church, prophesying, teaching, and more. Many believe that the top leadership role in a congregation (such as Senior Pastor) should only be given to men, based on verses such as in Titus 1:6. But there are even instances in the Bible that God has used women as the top leadership, such as Deborah judging Israel, and Priscilla (apparently) leading her home church. I would suggest that you begin with the letter to Titus, and just read through it to see how Paul writes regarding men and women serving in the church, and then read 1 Timothy chapters 2-3. My view is that God sets men to be the top leadership, and both men and women serve in all capacities under him, but that if there is not a man willing to serve the Lord, He can and does use women as top leadership also. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |
