1 | Naming our Daughter question | 2 Chr 3:1 | wshriner | 131936 | ||
Hi we're trying to pick a girl's name for our soon to be born daughter. Our first son is Levi, and we're working on the second child's name now... Name must have Biblical significance, and lead easily to a prayer we have for the child for their lifetime, as their parents. We're trying a few on for size and need some feedback. From a biblical as well as social perspective... Grace - an easy choice (1 Cor 15:10, Eph 1:7, 2:8-10, etc) Gracia - my wife made up this word, and thinks it is latin for grace. It has more syllables, better ring with middle/last name (middle may be Gail). Mercy - Ruled out by the Mrs, but what a powerful name that could be. Jubilee - my personal favorite, shot down by the mrs. (Lev. 25) Moriah - some confusion here, lots of history (Gen. 14,22,28), currently owned by the wrong people, but high interest from the Mrs. We are both especially interested in the social impacts of the Moriah name we may not be aware of. Any input would be super, thanks. I should also add that alternative suggestions are welcome - we'll let you know if we take your idea. |

Greetings! How wonderful that you are putting so much thought behind the naming of your daughter! I am truly glad that you seek to honor God in this way. "Moriah, currently owned by the wrong people" ???? God owns it all(!) but not all people "belong" to Him! Moriah is the site upon which Solomon built the temple for the Lord. Today, the believer is the temple of the Holy Spirit - how fitting to name a child Moriah. I kind of like to implications of "Moriah Grace. " Also consider Hannah - 1 Sam 1:20 - she prayed for a child and was blessed with Samuel. Ruth - she chose the Lord and His people over her own and became part of the lineage of Jesus Christ What about Abigail? She was a woman of courage and wisdom as well as beauty and was able to discern God's way. Read about her in 1 Sam 25(Abby Gail also comes to mind) May God bless you in all your "expectations" and plans! mommapbs |
