1 | Speaking in tongues? | 1 Corinthians | Kimmy | 20298
A lady that led one bible study that I was in told me that everyone has the ability to speak in tongues, and that if we can't, we should pray to God to give us that gift. She also said that if we could not speak in tongues, it was a sign that we weren't filled with the Holy Spirit. I don't believe that everyone has this gift, and I don't believe that you have to do it to show that you are filled with the Spirit. What are some thoughts on this?
2 | Speaking in tongues? | 1 Corinthians | mimild | 20299
Read 1 Corinthians 12 and you might get a better answer than I or maybe anyone else can give you. But this is my belief for what it's worth. God gives each of us different gifts as He sees fit. When we accept Christ as our Savior we are at that time filled with the Spirit of Christ. Who among us has a Spiritual meter that states how filled of the Sirit we or someone else is. We are given these gifts not to show off, but to edify each other. Look at the following scriptures, but read all of chapter 12 of 1 corinthains and you talk to God about. 1 Cor 12:28 And God has appointed in the church, first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, various kinds of tongues. 1 Cor 12:29 All are not apostles, are they? All are not prophets, are they? All are not teachers, are they? All are not workers of miracles, are they? 1 Cor 12:30 All do not have gifts of healings, do they? All do not speak with tongues, do they? All do not interpret, do they? 1 Cor 12:31 But earnestly desire the greater gifts. And I show you a still more excellent way. |
