1 | How much submitting must a woman do? | 1 Corinthians | Searcher56 | 11638 | ||
Norrie, both the submitting, by the wife and the loving, by the husband are independent. As a husband, I am determined to love my wife, even if she does not submit. BTW she does. If there is abuse, should she still submit? If she stays, yes. There is no wiggle room in the Bible. Should she leave? Only after sound Bibilcal advice. Soemtimes it is perception, because she does not want to do it his way. Just like we don't always want to do it Christ's way. The Bible has mandated who is the leader. Yes, we are co-equal. The husband need help and hopefully the commitment of marriage, and as a helpmeet, she can be an intergral part in his recovery. Steve |

Steve, If I have taken what you wrote wrong let me know. "Should she leave? Only after sound biblical advice." NO! She should leave period. Yes she should get sound biblical advice and counselling but she needs to leave at once. No woman should ever stay in an abuse situation. Her life as well as her childrens lives are inevitably in danger. Christ would never want a woman to stay where her life is threatened. In an abuse situation the cycle of abuse will always get worse. The man does not believe he is wrong, usually because that was the way he was raised. A man of this type is usually very controlling. He does not want her friends or family to know of the abuse and will do his best to isolate her. There is no "perception" about it being her fault because she does not want to do it his way. We are not talking about just a disgreement here. We are talking about women getting beaten, kicked, threatened with weapons, and pushed into walls or worse. A woman is NEVER deserving of physical or mental abuse. In addition, the children are usually witnesses to this and probably are suffering from violence inflicted on them also. The husband is in need of help. She can be an intergral part in his recovery and hopefully they can put their marriage back together but it will doubtfully happen when the wife is still in the home. A woman should submit to her husband but she should NEVER submit to his abuse. |
