1 | how do you become saved | Romans | RodGardner | 116096
Hank, you are right. Believing is the key. However, in your attemp to simplify the word of God you left out some key points of that chapter. First, the word believe in that verse comes from the Greek word Pisteuo, and it means to be presueaded of. The following verses shows how God saved the houshold threw Paul. Paul spoke the word of God to them and they were then baptized. Then they were saved by God, not something they did. So there must be a criteria for believing then, and that can be found in Romans 10; 14-17. Gods elect are people who hear, and when they hear, they believe. When they believe, they speak truth just like Christ did. However, If you want to give yourself the credit for believing, then who am I to stop you.

RodGardner: Thanks for responding. The matter, which I do NOT propose to introduce as a topic of debate, seems to pivot on two questions. The one is whether the jailer and his household were saved before they were baptized (as I maintain) or afterward (as you maintain). And the other consideration is did the jailer and his family hear and believe the gospel of Christ because they were of the elect, or did they become of the elect when they heard and believed the gospel of Christ? This is posted for your reflection and consideration, not as a springboard to debate. --Hank
