Was Saul from Tarsus a fighter? Did he use his fists?
2 | Did Saul (Paul) use his fists? | Acts | Makarios | 155439
Greetings Willie2005, The Bible does not specifically say that Saul ever struck anyone with his fists, but it does say that he "began ravaging the church, entering house after house, and dragging off men and women" putting them in prison (Acts 8:3), "destroyed those who called on this name" (Acts 9:21), and breathed threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord (Acts 9:1). But it is with the grace of the Lord that he could later say, "Brethren, I have lived my life with a perfectly good conscience before God up to this day." (Acts 23:1). I am a bit puzzled with this pre-occupation lately at the Forum with Saul of Tarsus. Let us dwell on Paul, who was commended by the Lord (2 Corinthians 10:18). Blessings to you, Makarios |

3 | Did Saul (Paul) use his fists? | Acts | Hank | 155440
Good observation, Makarios, and it is certainly Paul, the apostle born out of due season, who presents the better example of a Christian to the world, not the zealous leader of the goon squad who went about bushwhacking followers of the Way. But it is also wonderful to see the contrast, to see how Jesus Christ can and does change lives. Who would have predicted that this raging Pharisee, Saul, could ever have become the mighty man of faith that he did? And we know that he could not and did not do it save by the grace and power of our blessed Lord. It should spur us onward and make us eager to teach/preach the gospel of Christ, "the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes" (cf. 1:16). --Hank
