Greetings BlackSaint! John 13:34 states, "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another." I will share with you an interesting piece of commentary from the Zondervan NASB Study Bible.. "13:34 A new commandment. In a sense it was an old one (see Lev. 19:18), but for Christ's disciples it was new, because it was the mark of their brotherhood, created by Christ's great love for them (cf. Matt. 22:37-39; Mark 12:30-31; Luke 10:27). as I have loved you. Our standard is Christ's love for us." (1) In fact, Leviticus 19:18 is quoted by Christ, Paul (Rom. 13:9; Gal. 5:14) and James (2:8). So in essense, a person should love to do an abundance of good for his fellow being as he does for himself. And "neighbor" does not necessarily only mean the person living beside you, but to whomever you come into contact with. Blessings to you, Makarios (1) The Zondervan NASB Study Bible, 1999, the Zondervan Corporation, Kenneth Barker, General Editor |
