1 | John 19:17-42. Obedient to Death | John | Makarios | 154971
Greetings Dfww65! You have most certainly outdone yourself, with 12 questions all in one post!! :) Here goes.. 1) In John 20:31, John writes the purpose for his Gospel, which is "so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God." I believe that his primary goal was evangelistic when he wrote his Gospel. Therefore, he did not dwell on such things as the crucifixion and references to the Old Testament as does Matthew and Luke; but he did dwell on the Resurrection and other things that set his Gospel apart. 2) I believe that the attitude or motive of the various Jewish groups involved is summed up in Matthew 27:18. I believe that Pilate gave way due to pressure (Matt. 27:24), and the soldiers were simply treating Jesus as one who is sentenced to death (Matt. 27:29). 3) Everyone is envious of those who are in power. Case in point: there is no shortage of people in power today who will attempt to vie to become the next U.S. President. 4) Mary - Severe despair, heartbroken to the point of lifelong sorrow, state of shock 5) Jesus shows His love for her, providing for her to the very end (as He is also doing for us). 6) "It is finished!" - Jesus died as a victor and completed what He was set out to do. 7) Severe anguish and grief, shock at what had happened. 8) The disciples had faith, but not enough faith to stand firm in the face of disaster. Jesus knew that they would fail, but His church is not built upon people's strength, but upon God's ability to use people even after they have failed. 9) I honestly could not fathom how I would be able to respond in such a situation. 10) Stand out, and show that your faith is set firm in Jesus, even unto death. 11) There are just too many ways to answer; Salvation, Irrevocable Change, Identification with God, Love; there are just so many ways. 12) I believe that John fought hard to debunk the Gnostic heresy that denied the Resurrection by foretelling the Resurrection (16:16,19-20,22) and by explaining by EYEWITNESS ACCOUNT of the Resurrection and subsequent appearances of the Risen Lord. John also goes to great lengths in debunking heresy in 1 John. Blessings to you, Makarios |

2 | The reality of the resurrection of Jesus | John | dfww65 | 155878
Hi Makarios, thks for helping me to answer all the question. As a very young christian of me, many time I find it differcult of understanding of His words and always had doubts whether is it truth what the Bible has written. Here attach with more questions on John 20:1-31. 1.How would you react if a friend told you he had seen someone raised from the dead? 2.Why is it important to you that Jesus rose from the dead? Could you still believe in him if he had died and we could visit his tomb? 3.What important details do we learn from each one(vv.1-9)as John identifies three witnesses to the empty tomb: Mary Magdalene, Peter and John(himself)? 4.Why is it important to prove the tomb was empty? 5.Why do you think Mary Magdalene doesn't immediately recognize Jesus(vv.10-15)as John records three appearances of the risen Christ: to Mary Magdalene, to his disciples and to Thomas? After she does recognize him, what impresses you most about their encounter(vv.16-18)? 6.When Jesus appears to his disciples, what specific gifts and promises does he give them(vv.19-23)? What do you think is the significance of each gift or promises? 7.Finally, Jesus appears to Thomas(vv.24-29). How does Thomas's attitude-both before and after Jesus appears to him-add credibility to the resurrection? 8.How does Thomas's exclamation "My Lord and my God"(v.28) provide a fitting climax to John's Gospel? 9.What can we learn from Jesus' encounter with Thomas about helping people who have doubts about the Christian message? 10.On what evidence do you base your belief that Jesus rose from the dead? 11.Is believing that Jesus rose from the dead as important as believing that he died on the cross for our sins? Can you please explain why or why not. 12.Which have been most convincing to you, and why as John tells us why he has written his Gospel in v.30 and 31. Of all the "miraculous signs" John has included. 13.Who is someone you can tell about Jesus and his resurrection? Blessed to you and your wife. Makarios |

3 | The reality of the resurrection of Jesus | John | Makarios | 155882
Greetings Dfww65! I pray that the Lord continues to guide you in discipleship! 1. It would be very exciting! But I would ask about all of the details and circumstances to confirm that the Lord actually raised someone that I might know from the dead. 2. The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is the bedrock of the Christian faith. Only in believing in Jesus as the Son of God and in His Resurrection do we have access to the grace of God (Romans 5:8,15) and are saved (Romans 1:16) because of that grace (Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:1-10). I strongly suggest that you dwell on this question of grace and salvation and how it is related to Christ and His Resurrection by searching through the New Testament. 3. Mary Magdalene immediately notices that there is no body to be found in the tomb. She then runs to tell the disciples, because she believes that the body was perhaps taken away (vv. 2,13), but is later told by the Lord Himself (vv. 14-18) that He indeed had risen! When Peter and John get there (John outruns Peter and gets there first), John first notices the linen wrappings and then enters the tomb after Peter, and then believed (v. 8) that Jesus was resurrected. Peter also notices the burial face-cloth lying in a place by itself. Then they left, and Mary Magdalene stayed, weeping, and sees the angels, and then the risen Lord Himself! Jesus appears to her first, and then appears later to the rest of the disciples (vv. 19-29). It is of importance to note that John picks this place to state the reason for writing his gospel. 4. It is important to prove that the tomb was empty of any body because Jesus had a 'bodily' resurrection. It wasn't just a spirit or spiritual resurrection, but Jesus Himself, body and all, was risen from the dead! And only God Himself could have raised Him bodily from the grave. 5. Actually, the risen Jesus was not recognized a number of times (John 21:4; Matt. 28:17; Luke 24:16,37). He might have looked a bit differently; or perhaps, He may have intentionally prevented recognition, at least at first. What impresses me the most about the encounter with Mary Magdalene is that the compassion and love of Jesus is boundless: He first comforted Mary who was mourning (after the other two disciples left) before appearing to the other disciples in the evening. 6. Jesus breathes on them and tells them to "Receive the Holy Spirit" (v. 22), thus anticipating what will happen 50 days later on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2). He reassures them that He has indeed risen from the grave. 7. It adds credibility because Thomas - who was skeptical and completely in doubt (v. 25) - was completely changed, and his attitude and opinion totally reversed in v. 28 when he, himself, confirmed by saying "My Lord and my God!" that Jesus had, in fact, risen from the dead. 8. The exclamation of Thomas is followed immediately by what John wrote in verses 30-31, "but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name." 9. We can give them proof through Scripture that there was one who was completely in doubt, and even he, when seeing and examining the risen Lord for himself, came to believe the truth. Through Scripture, we, as disciples of Jesus, can provide answers to all doubts about Christianity. 10. There is too little room here to answer this question in its fullest extent. My life, things that have happened in my life, answered prayer, faith, nature; those things are a good start! 11. Yes, believing that Jesus rose from the dead is JUST AS important as believing that Jesus died on the cross for our sins. Paul answers this in 1 Corinthians 15:12-21. 12. John always refers to Jesus' miracles as "signs," a word emphasizing the significance of the action rather than the marvel (see 4:54; 6:14; 9:16; 11:47). They revealed Jesus' glory (see 1:14; Isaiah 35:1-2; Joel 3:18; Amos 9:13). Aside from the Resurrection, I have always enjoyed the feeding of the 5,000 (John 6), because it is mentioned in every Gospel. 13. Everyone! :-) Blessings to you, Makarios |

Greeting Makarios, Thank for the prayer and the answer. Continue to pray to Jesus and ask for His guidiance, blessing and protection. Here attach with some more questions on John 21:1-25(Purpose: To demonstrate Christ's ability to use for his glory, no matter what our past failures have been.) 1. Can you please tell me about a broken relationship you tried to restore and what resulted from your effort. 2. Describe how you feel when someone you have hurt refuses to forgive you. 3. What is the significance of Peter's decision to return to fishing(vv.1-3)? 4. What is Jesus trying to show the disciples by allowing them to catch such a large number of fish(vv.4-6;see Luke 5:4-11)? 5. When Peter hears that "it is the Lord"(vv.7-8), he jumps into the water and begins swimming ahead of the boat. What does that response reveal about Peter and his relationship with Jesus? 6. How would you have response if you had denied Jesus just a few days earlier? 7. What subtle differences do you notice in Jesus' three questions and Peter responses(vv.15-17)? What do you think is the significance of those differences? 8. What can we learn from this passage about the steps involved in restoring a Christian who has sinned? 9. Why do you think Jesus chooses this particular occasion to predict the kind of death Peter would die(vv.18-19)? 10. How does it help to know that you can still serve and glorify God no matter what your past failures have been? 11. What does Jesus' rebuke to Peter(v.22) reveal about the danger of comparing ourselves with other Christians? 12. Imagine Jesus saying these things to you. How would you respond, or what would the words mean in the context of your life? "Do you truly love me?" "Take care of my sheep?" "You must follow me." 13. What aspects of Jesus' character or ministry have impressed you most? 14. What responses have you made in your heart and life as a result of that deeper understanding? Blessings to you, dfww65 |

5 | A Walk with a Resurrected Man | John | Makarios | 156057
Greetings Dfww65! Do I continue to get credit for 14 answered questions when I write just 1 post? :) Just kidding! :) 1. Actually, I'm still in the business of doing just that! My family is a classic dysfunctional, fragmented family that I am working to restore and repair each day through prayer.. It takes time, but with persistence, I have seen the Lord bring two people back together again! You just can't give up. 2. It hurts, and it is frustrating. But no matter how hard you try or what lengths you go to resolve the issue, only the Lord can move the person to finally, truly forgive you. It is an unChristian thing to do to hold a grudge against someone (not to mention between professing Christians), but that is easier said then actually put in practice. 3. Peter and the other disciples are occuping themselves with what they did very well - fishing, as they wait on the Lord (Matt. 28:16). But the Lord will send them out as fishers of men (Matt. 28:18-20). 4. I believe that the Lord again is revealing Himself to them, to prove that He is indeed the Lord Jesus Christ, by repeating the same miracle that happened when Peter met Him for the first time (Luke 5:4-11). It is interesting that the Lord found Peter in the same place, doing the exact same thing as when He met him for the first time. But this time, Peter would be changed and finally come to understand (v. 17; Acts 2:14) what it was that he was called to do. 5. Peter was eager to meet the Lord and have reconciliation with Him after his denials, the crucifixion and the Resurrection. Peter loved the Lord and was now prepared to profess his love in unabashed truth, after being weighed down with the guilt of denying the Lord three times. 6. Perhaps in the same way! The weaknesses of Peter are by no means limited to just Peter. :) 7. The 3rd time that Jesus asked Peter, "Do you love Me?", Jesus used the word for love that signified something less than total devotion, which is the same word that Peter used in responding back to the Lord the other two times.. By doing this, the Lord is questioning even that level of love that Peter thought he was safe in claiming. This lesson challenges Peter to seek a proper understanding of his heart, not by what he had said or had done, but based on the Lord's omniscience. 8. We can examine ourselves deeply, and ask ourselves if the place where we feel "comfortable" in identifying ourselves with the Lord truly exemplifies total devotion to Him or not. The Lord forgives us if we truly, honestly repent to Him. 9. The Lord is telling Peter that his devotion to Him will even include his own death (Matt. 10:37-39). Is Peter willing to die for the sake of Jesus? Peter would later be martyred for the sake of spreading the gospel. 10. The Lord's grace is overwhelmingly justifying and restoring! But it comes at the price of our unadulterated devotion to Him! He bought us with His own precious blood. 11. If John lived until His Second Coming, it was none of Peter's concern. He needed to live his own life in faithfulness, not in comparison to any others. This teaches us not to be envious, no, not even envious of another's walk with Christ. But we are to be all-consumed in our own walk with Him, and nothing must detract from it. 12. Imagine Jesus saying these things to you. How would you respond, or what would the words mean in the context of your life? "Do you truly love me?" "Take care of my sheep?" "You must follow me." This question demands too lengthy of an answer to put here at StudyBibleForum.com.. It would cause me to reexamine my love and my life and my pursuit of the Lord and His calling for me. 13. What aspects of Jesus' character or ministry have impressed you most? Again, this answer demands too lengthy of an answer.. Everything about the Lord is impressive to me as I seek to know Him more and more each day. 14. What responses have you made in your heart and life as a result of that deeper understanding? I would put the same answer to #13 here as well. Blessings to you, Makarios |
