Theophilus. It may be that Theophilus was not an individual at all. The name literally means "Loves God" -- so perhaps it is a symbolic use of the name. Perhaps he addressed it to all who love God (you and me included.) | ||||||

Just Read Mark Actually a closer rendering of the name would be, friend of God. As you suggest it could be written to all God's friends, however it is more than likely written to a person. You and I can still gain wisdom from it by reading it over his shoulder. EdB |
