Scripture ... Mat 16:13-19; 18:18; Act 5:3,9; Eph 2:20 ... IJELUB, Greetings Jesus wanted to know if His disciples were willing to say who He was, not matter what others say. When Peter answered Jesus said, that man didn't tell him ... but God did. Verse 18 has a word play. Peter is petros (detached rock) and rock is petra (bedrock). What was the church built upon. -Christ -Peter's confession here (vs 16) -Christ's teachings -Peter himself (the view I'll present) ... Eph 2:20 The gates of Hades may be the powers of death. The church will never die. The keys were first used at Penecost. Bind ... loose is anouncement, not authority. Much like seen in 18:18 and Acts 5:3,9. This is one view. If you type Matt 16:18 or Matt 16:19, next to Questions/Notes on Verse (on the top) you'll see several strings on these verses. Hope it helps. Searcher |
