Yes very definitely. The difficulty comes as we try to maintain that level of love/relationship. Slowly but most surely apathy, worldly desire and lust replaces larger and larger portions of it. EdB |

Dear Brother Ed, Writing here purely from my own communion: In tranditional Baptist churches there is a very old phrase that we frequently use: "means of grace." We recognize two broad categories: public and private. (The definition of "means of grace" would differ substantially from that given it prior to the Reformation or even as defined in high church circles.) These are the means by which we appropriate the grace of God in our lives. The point I'm getting at is a continuation of where you left off: You said, "The difficulty comes as we try to maintain that level of love/relationship." As believers we are all blessed that God grants us grace. The private means of grace include Bible study, prayer, and meditation (i.e., contemplation of the Word of God). Hence, as we seek to love God as we ought, we look to our great Example, the Lord Jesus (Philippians 2;5ff), in order that the grace of God might not be impeded. Grace abounds when we seek Him (2 Corinthians 9:8). Genuine love of God is always evidenced in obedience (Deuteronomy 30:20, John 14:21, 1 Peter 1:22, etc.). Anyway... just thought I'd share those bits and pieces from my own life. Also, thank you for your clarifying comments! In Him, Doc |

Doc Writing here purely from my own communion: John Gilmour, a Godly Britisher who loved to witness for Christ, always carried gospel books to give to people as he had opportunity. One day Gilmour was walking in a little village when he came across an old Irishman selling lids, kettles, and saucepans. Gilmour greeted the man, “Good morning how is business today?” “Oh,” said the Irishman, “I cannot complain.” Then Gilmour said, “What a grand thing it is to be saved” The old man looked intently at him and replied, “ I know something better than that,” “Better than being saved? I would like to know what that is.” With a warm smile, the man responded, “The companionship of the Man who saved me, sir” The Christian life does not consist only of being forgiven and going to heaven when we die. Christ wants us to enjoy fellowship with Him everyday. That’s how we get to “know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death”(Phil. 3:10). An old hymn say, ‘Friendship with Jesus, fellowship divine; oh, that blessed sweet communion Jesus is a friend of mine.” Knowing Jesus is more than an intellectual knowing of Him, it is a relationship formed through talking with Him (prayer), walking with Him (Bible study and mediation) and loving Him (worship). Well said, brother Ed! Well said indeed! Worship and knowledge (John 4:24 and 1 Cor 14:15) as well as worship and love (Psalm 86:12 and Matthew 15:8). If anyone truly knows the Lord, how can they not love Him and worship Him? Thank you for your comments, sir! In Him, Doc |
