Schimc, I would like to address just the question you raise about Luke 24, since it is one of my favorite passages as you might guess from my screen name. I think you have misread Luke 24:34. It was the disciple at Jerusalem who told the two returning from Emmaus, before they could tell their story, that the Lord had risen and had appeared to Simon Peter. Then in verse 35 "the two recounted what had taken place on the way and how He made himself known to them." See also 1 Cor 15:4-5 in which Paul also recounts that the risen Jesus appeared to Peter. The fact that the two going to Emmaus did not recognize Jesus until the "breaking of the bread", which has important Eucharistic implications, is consistent with Mary not recognizing Him at first in the Garden in John 20. As for evangelizing and problems with the text: faith is a gift from God, evangelizers (us)are mere instruments of God's grace, sometimes even unknowingly. Apparent textual inconsistencies are nothing in comparison if one is able by grace to overcome the rational obstacles to believing in the bodily Resurrection of Jesus. Emmaus |

I do not think I responded to you earlier, but I must say that I was elated to read your response. I was certainly fooled into believe that it read the other way around. I just wanted to say thanks. You made my week! In Christ Schimc |

4 | Physical or Spiritual Resurrection? | Matthew | schimc | 112917 | ||
Anyone know how many places in the bible, it speaks of the physical resurrection of Jesus Christ. I am having another discussion with my brother who is convinced the places in the bible that refers to the physical ressurrection are mythological, or referring to the spiritual resurrection. Greetings Schimc! See Luke 24:39. After His resurrection Jesus said in answer to the doubts of the disciples, ""See My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself; touch Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have." Blessings, mommapbs |
