1 | How do we attain righteousness? | Matthew | Dave R. | 38480
Good post. Great thoughts. How does Jesus cause the "righteous requirements of the law" to be fulfilled in our lives? How do we attain the standard of righteousness that Christ requires? |

2 | How do we attain righteousness? | Matthew | rubired | 40160
greetings in christ the lord. we dont "attain" righteousness..it is a gift...freely given by the lord to believers. ICorin 1:30 tells us that Jesus MADE us pure and holy and gave himself to purchase our salvation. Rom 8:1 says NOW there is no condemnation awaiting those that belong to Christ. (when?? NOW!!!) Isaiah 55:5 tells us the nations will obey us..not because of our own power or glory, but because God has glorified us. Rom 1:17 says that God makes us ready for heaven...and right in His sight...when we put our faith in Christ. so, if we have been glorified, made pure and holy, and made right in God's sight...we are the righteous NOW!!! we cant earn righteousness...how could we? the only way to make us righteous had to be freely given by Jesus, and all we have to do is believe His word accept Him as savior, and receive His gift!
3 | Salvation or how we live day to day? | Matthew | Dave R. | 40294
Thank you for your post. I agree. However, I believe there is a difference in the "righteousness" of salvation and the "righteousness" of sanctification. It reminds me of a book I once read by Francis Schaefer called something like "How shall we Then Live". In other words, now that we have received the gift of salvation in Christ, having his righteousness "transferred" to our account, how do we live in order to fully appropriate the blessing He has bestowed? Are we not called? Are we not motivated? Are we not obligated to do as Jesus did, constantaly re-evaluating the things we hold dear in light of His presence and guidance in our lives? Are we not free, as saved people, to choose how we live and behave? Are we not free to immerse ourselves deeper into the "good life" Christ calls us to as well as free to listen with only have an ear and keep one foot in the world to make sure our retirements are secure? What do you think? Dave R. |

4 | Salvation or how we live day to day? | Matthew | srbaegon | 40330
Hello Dave If I may jump in. I would not say there is a "'righteousness' of salvation and the 'righteousness' of sanctification". Rather that there is a difference between initial and ongoing sanctification. As has been noted we are declared righteous when we believe (Rom 4:3-5), and yet there is an active working of righteousness in us (Rom 6:13). The same is true of sanctification. You are sanctified when you believe (1 Pet 2:9-10), yet there is the active working of sanctification in us (Rom 6:19). Romans 6 and 1 Peter 1:13-2:12 are two good sections regarding sanctification. You (or Schaefer?) ask several good rhetorical questions. It's the practical, godly working of a holy life that does these things well. Steve |

Steve, Yes, good clarification. Actually, Schaefer is the one with the pointed questions and challenging perspectives on what it means to live day to day with Christ as our model and Lord. But a great voice of today speaking to how we can best appropriate the rule and grace of Christ in our hearts through our day to day doings and relationships is a Univ. of Southern Calif. professor named Dallas Willard. His "Divine Consiracy" was a real eye opener for me. I recommend it most enthusiastically. Thank you for your well focused post. I will read Romans 6 and 1 Peter 1 and 2 to gain perspective. What a rich blessing it is to be "washed in the word" of God. Dave R. |
