1 | Did Aaron receive a reward | 1 Chr 23:13 | DocTrinsograce | 235531
Hi, sonofmom... Aaron did not receive his priestly office by doing anything to merit it; and certainly not for his heinous sin and subsequent lies regarding the golden calf (Exodus 32:21-24). Notice that God Himself appointed Aaron and his sons as priests well prior to this time (Exodus 28:1; cf 1 Chronicles 23:13). No priest in Scripture ever earned the status. Just as under the old, so it is under the much superior new covenant (Hebrews 7:2), God is the one who makes priests (Revelation 1:6). In Him, Doc |

3 | Was there a reward! | 1 Chr 23:13 | DocTrinsograce | 235541
Dear sonofmom, The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines reward as “something that is given in return for good or evil done or received or that is offered or given for some service or attainment.” If you read through Exodus 32, the only wonder is that he wasn't killed outright by the son's of Levi (v28) or by the plague that followed (v35). All sin only and ever merits eternal death (Romans 6:23). Nonetheless, after the intercession of Moses (vv11-13), and strictly by the mercy of God, Aaron along with others were spared (v33). Whoever you heard talk about Aaronic rewards in the context of the golden calf incident, needs to sit down and do some real reading of the text. ... Oh my, I hope it wasn't something from a pulpit! :-( In Him, Doc |

4 | Was there a reward! | 1 Chr 23:13 | sonofmom | 235550
Doc, thanks for clearing that up. Also, I need to apologize for the typo, -After the word, 'reward' it was meant to be a question mark, and not an exclamation point. Nevertheless, I now feel enriched that I may go back to my new friend and discuss the matter once more. No, it was not from a pulpit, thankfully. |
