1 | 2Kings 3:16 version discrepancy, ESV/NAS | 2 Kin 3:16 | Psionspace | 203930
Does anyone know why there is such a discrepancy between NASB (and most others) compared with the verse as laid out in the ESV? ESV: "And he said, "Thus says the LORD, 'I will make this dry streambed full of pools.'" NASB: "Thus says the LORD, 'Make this valley full of trenches.'" Your assistance is greatly appreciated! |

There are no variants listed in BHS for 2 King 3:16. The word that contains the idea of "to make" is an Infinitive Absolute. Pratico and Van Pelts basic grammar says an Infinitive Absolute has no real English counter part and that it may be used to emphasize another verb, to give an imperative command, to express simultaneous action or to express action that complements the main verb. An infinitive absolute has no person, number nor gender. The same word occurs in 1 Sam 26:25, Jer 44:17,25, Ezek 23:30 and Prov 23:5.
