1 | Keeper of the Wardrobe- Book of Kings | 2 Kin 22:14 | AVP | 30695
I am an image consultant doing some research on wardrobing in the bible. I came across the term, "keeper of the wardorbe" in 2 Kings 10:22 and 2 Chronicles 34:22. I understand it was a keeper of the sacerdotal vestments. Does anyone know more about this role of keeper of the wardorbe?
2 | Keeper of the Wardrobe- Book of Kings | 2 Kin 22:14 | Makarios | 30696
Greetings AVP! The Jamieson, Fausset, and Brown commentary states, "Her husband Shallum was grandson of one Harhas, "keeper of the wardrobe." If this means the priestly wardrobe, [Harhas] must have been a Levite. But it probably refers to the royal wardrobe." The Ryrie Expanded Edition Study Bible and The MacArthur Study Bible also concur with Jamieson, Fausset, and Brown (JBF). After looking at 2 Kings 10:22, 2 Kings 22:14 and 2 Chronicles 34:22, I can conclude that the "wardrobe" would refer to the keeping of that which is either worn by the priests or the king. Perhaps the same "Shallum" [2 Kings 22:14] is the same 'Shallum' that was an uncle to Jeremiah [Jer. 32:7]. 2 Kings 22:14 and 2 Chr. 34:22 are very similar, while 2 Kings 10:22 leads me to believe that the "keeper of the wardrobe" was a keeper of the priestly garments instead of the royal garments, since the keeper was commanded to bring out the garments for the worshipers of Baal. But that, of course, is just my own opinion. Blessings to you, Nolan |
