1 | Is there contradiction in Hosea? | Hosea | melody4u | 229693
I have been studying the Book of Hosea and I have run across something I was hoping you all could help me understand. So we know, that Hosea is mainy about Israel and their sin, God's judgment, showing his love for them, and calling them to repentence. Hosea 11: 9 says that God will not carry out his wrath. This is God speaking, but in Chapter 12:2 it says that God wil punish Jacob but this is not God speaking here. I do not believe the Bible contradicts itself so can someone help me understand what happened between chapter 11 and 12, didGod change his mind? Also, I have searched several translations to see what is meant when the Bible says Jacob in Hosea 12:2 and even that has varying translations. Thanks!
2 | Is there contradiction in Hosea? | Hosea | EJJ | 229694
The book of Hosea is a hard read. It goes back and forth it seems. Which we Have with many of the OT scripture. I believe it is a present and future issue. We see this in his marriage to Gomer (meaning completion). God uses this to illistrate His covenant relationship with Israel. Hosea married Gomer, she left, he bought her back. Makes a contract with her not to leave again. We know that 12: 2 the 16th prophecy of Hosea was fulfilled. But 11:9 the 15th prophecy has not. There are 8 predictions yet unfulfilled in chapter 11. 1. I will ot execute the fierceness of My anger. 2. I will not return to destroy Ephraim. 3. I will not enter the city. 4. They will walk before the Lord. 5. He will roar like a lion. 6. The children will tremble from the west when He shall roar 7. They will tremble like a bird out of Egypt, and as a dove out of Assyria. 8. I will place them in their houses. These predictions are yet future, for God destroyed them soon after this. It is at the 2nd advent of Christ when God will not execute His fierce anger anymore, when He will return but not to destroy Ephraim, and when He will be in the midst of Istael. At this time God will not enter the city to destroy it; instead He will spare it and place the people in their own houses. This is how I see Hosea hope it helps you. It is a very interesting book. But when you see it in the prophesy of present and future it help with understanding. And there is no contradiction. The Word of God will never contradict itself. |
